Keanu Makes The Cut For "47 Ronin"

Universal Pictures reports that principal photography starts March 14, 2011 on "47 Ronin", a new 3D fantasy-adventure.

Keanu Reeves ("The Matrix") leads the cast as 'Kai', an outcast who joins 'Oishi' (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the '47 Ronin'.

"...Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors..."

"47 Ronin" will be directed by Carl Erik Rinsch ("The Gift").

Additional cast includes Kou Shibasaki ("One Missed Call") as their master's daughter and the love of Kai's life, 'Mika', Tadanobu Asano ("Mongol") as 'Lord Kira' and Oscar nominated Rinko Kikuchi ("Babel") as lady 'Mizuki'.

Screenplay for "47 Ronin" is by Chris Morgan ("Wanted") and Hossein Amini ("The Wings of the Dove"). Producers are Scott Stuber ("The Kingdom"), Pamela Abdy ("Garden State") and Eric McLeod ("Tropic Thunder").
