Weaving Bones Up As "The Red Skull"

Sneak Peek actor Hugo Weaving ("The Matrix") as the comic book villain 'The Red Skull', in a high-res image, supporting the upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation, "Captain America: The First Avenger".

From Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios, "Captain America: The First Avenger" is directed by Joe Johnston ("The Wolfman").

Opening in 3D and 2D theaters July 22, 2011, the WW II action feature also stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough.

Created by writer Joe Simon and illustrator Jack "King" Kirby, the Red Skull debuted in Timely Comics' "Captain America Comics" #1 (1941), as 'Johann Schmidt'.

Falling in love with a girl that he later murders, the psychotic Schmidt becomes a bellhop in a hotel housing the 'Führer', who scolds an incompetent officer, swearing he could create a better soldier out of any ordinary dolt, including the bellhop.

On a whim, the bellhop is recruited, with the Führer personally training Schmidt as his right-hand man, giving him a uniform and grotesque red skull mask, appointing him head of all terrorist activities, external espionage and sabotage.

The Red Skull made such an impact on the Allies that the US government created their own equivalent, initiating the clandestine 'Project Rebirth' that morphed rejected Army volunteer 'Steve Rogers' into 'Captain America'.

The Skull and Cap fought numerous skirmishes throughout the European theatre, culminating in a final battle that left the Skull supposedly dead, buried under the rubble of a bombed-out building, while an experimental gas keeps him in suspended animation.
