Producers Root For 3D "Triffids"

Author John Wyndham's sci-fi novel "The Day of the Triffids", after several film adaptations, continues to take seed as a 3D feature, from Michael Pregerd, producer of the 2009 BBC1 miniseries.

"The Day of the Triffids", published in 1951, is set in the future after a meteor shower leaves much of the world's population blind, leaving genetically altered plants ('Triffids'), which have three legs and poisonous venom, to take over humanity.

Preger's company purchased screen rights to the novel in 1991, to develop the project as a big screen feature with producer Dan Murphy ("Transformers").

"It is a story that strikes at the heart of what it means to be human," said Murphy, "and does so in an intensely cinematic way."
