"Boardwalk Empire" the new crime thriller TV series from HBO, is set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, circa 1920 during the Prohibition bootlegger era, starring Steve Buscemi as a crime boss.
The show is adapted from author Nelson Johnson's book, "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption Of Atlantic City", by Emmy award-winning screenwriter/producer Terence Winter ("The Sopranos").
The pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorsese, who is expected to continue to be creatively involved in the ongoing production as a producer.September 1, 2009, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes, making the first season 12 episodes long, including the pilot.
