Scorsese Sees 3D For "Hugo Cabret"

According to reports from Sony, production has now started in London on Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese’s upcoming 'adventure' feature "Hugo Cabret".

The live-action film, set in the 1930's, photographed in 3D, stars Ben Kingsley ("Sexy Beast"), Sacha Baron Cohen ("Bruno"), Asa Butterfield ("The Boy in the Striped Pajamas") and Chloë Moretz ("Kick-Ass").

Based on author Brian Selznick’s 533-page, New York Times bestseller "The Invention of Hugo Cabret"), screenplay is by John Logan ("The Aviator") for producers Scorsese, Graham King, Tim Headington, and Johnny Depp. Executive producers are Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Charles Newirth and Christi Dembrowski.

"...'Hugo Cabret', Scorsese’s first film shot in 3D, tells the tale of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. When Hugo encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl and the cold, reserved man who runs the toy shop, he is caught up in a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy..."

Also cast are Jude Law ("Road To Perdition"), Ray Winstone ("Sexy Beast"), Christopher Lee ("Horror Of Dracula") and and Richard Griffiths ("The History Boys").

DP is Robert Richardson ("Inglourious Basterds"), production designer Dante Ferretti ("Shutter Island"), costume designer Sandy Powell ("Young Victoria") and editor Thelma Schoonmaker ("The Departed").

Hugo Cabret is filming at London’s Shepperton Studios and on location in Paris, for a scheduled December 2011 Sony Pictures release in North America.
