Glazer Gets "Under The Skin"

UK director Jonathan Glazer ("Sexy Beast") will direct an adaptation of author Michael Faber's 2000 sci-fi novel "Under the Skin", one of several features being developed by Britain's Film4, for producers Jim Wilson and Nick Wechsler:

'Isserley', a female extraterrestrial sent to Earth by a rich corporation on her planet to pick up and drug unwary hitchhikers, before delivering them to fellow aliens who fatten the human bodies up for their meat, considered a delicacy on the monsters' homeworld. But when Isserley falls in love with 'Amlis Vess', the son of her boss, he causes her attitudes towards hitchhikers to change, before leaving her and breaking her heart.

Darkly satirical, the novel touches on political themes of big business, intensive farming and environmental decay, reflecting on personal questions of sexual identity, humanity, snobbery and mercy.
