Brolin Slaps Leather As "Jonah Hex"

Sneak Peek actor Josh "W" Brolin as DC Comics' weird western hero "Jonah Hex".

Brolin stars in director Jimmy Hayward's upcoming Warners feature, targeting a June 18, 2010 release.

In the movie:

"...'Jonah Hex (Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone... and anything. Having survived death, Jonah's violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side." His only human connection is with 'Leila' (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own.

"But Jonah's past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can't refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist 'Quentin Turnbull' (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah's oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead..."

Created by writer John Albano and illustrator Tony DeZuniga, 'Jonah Woodson Hex' debuted in the early 1970's DC comic book title "All-Star Western" before landing a solo series 1977-1986.

Hex battled alcoholism and saw his mother turn to prostitution to make ends meet. Though he traveled extensively throughout the American West, the character eventually ended up in South America and China.

At one point Hex quit bounty hunting, got married, had a son and took up farming, although it did not last.

His facial injuries can be traced back to being sold into slavery by his father to the Apache for safe passage. Jonah saved the chief of the tribe from being killed by a mountain lion, but was betrayed by the chief's son while on a raid.

Hex returned years later to challenge the son in a sacred tomahawk battle but the Apache brave sabotaged Hex' tomahawk, forcing him to use his own knife in self defense when the tomahawk broke.

The tribe saw this as breaking the rules of the 'sacred battle', sentencing Hex to wear the 'mark of the demon' by pressing a searing hot tomahawk to his face, with his relationship to the chief the only thing saving him from death.

Actress Megan "Jennifer's Body" Fox co-stars in the film as Hex' love interest.
