Oscar-nominated actress Vera Farmiga ("Up In The Air"), who will play 'Wallis Simpson - the Duchess of Windsor' in Madonna's upcoming feature "W.E.", will also direct/star in the independent feature "Higher Ground", set to start in New York this June.
The film is an adaptation of author Carolyn S. Briggs' memoir, "This Dark World: A Memoir Of Salvation Found And Lost".
In her book, Briggs outlines how, while in her late teens, living with her husband in a Des Moines trailer park, she became seduced by the 'Fountain of Joy' church, and became a self-described 'Jesus Freak" religious zealot in a 'born-again' hippie group.
