Theseus was the founder-king of Athens, fathered by the god 'Poseidon' and 'Aethra', the wife of the king 'Aegeus', giving him a combination of divine and mortal characteristics. In his 'journey of labours', Theseus kills numerous orgres and monsters, including a half-man, half-horse 'centaur' and the half-man, half-bull 'Minotaur' in the 'Labyrinth'.
