HBO Sits In On The "Game Of Thrones"

HBO has greenlit a TV series based on the "Game of Thrones" fantasy-thriller books by author George R.R. Martin, prepping for a June start in Belfast.

Published in 1996, "Game of Thrones" is the first of seven novels as part of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, set against a backdrop of the European continent of 'Westeros'.

Actress Lena "300" Headey will co-star, following a battle among seven kingdoms and two ruling families for control of the 'Iron Throne'.

Headey will play 'Queen Cersei of House Lannister', the wife of 'King Robert' (Mark Addy), sister of twin brother 'Jaime Lannister' (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and younger brother 'Tyrion' (Peter Dinklage).

Actor Sean "Sharpes Rifles" Bean will play 'Ned Stark', who leaves his home to serve the king.


Tom McCarthy ("The Vistor") will direct the pilot, from a screenplay by David Benioff ("The Kite Runner") and D.B. Weiss, who will also co-produce...
