Meccano Gets A 3D "Erector"

Santa Monica-based Helix Films is in development on a screenplay to adapt the Meccano Toy Company's "Erector" toy construction system.

Patented in 1901, "Erector" consists of collections of small metal beams with regular holes for nuts, bolts, screws and mechanical parts including pulleys, gears and small electric motors.

Manufactured by the A. C. Gilbert Company @ the Erector Square factory in New Haven, Connecticut, until 1967, the Gabriel company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania purchased the 'Erector' name, making sets throughout the 1970's and 1980's.

The current "Erector" sets are Meccano sets manufactured by Meccano S.N. of France, part of the Nikko Group of Japan, available in the US since Jan. 2006.

"The Erector Set" is noted as the first toy brand to be part of a national advertising campaign in America, with hundreds of different Erector Set kits made over the years, including the "No. 12 1/2" deluxe kit that came with blueprints for the "Mysterious Walking Giant" robot.
