Fox Takes Another Look At "Daredevil"

According to reports Marvel Comics character "Daredevil", will be 'rebooted' as a new action feature from 20th Century Fox/Regency, with News Corp VP Peter Chernin producing and David "The Day The Earth Stood Still" Scarpa writing the screenplay.

The first "Daredevil" feature, directed by Mark Steven Johnson in 2003, grossed $179,179,718 worldwide on a budget of $78 million.

The character debuted in Daredevil #1 (April 1964), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with character-design input from illustrator Jack Kirby. When Everett turned in his first-issue pencils late, Marvel production manager Sol Brodsky and "Spider-Man" co-creator Steve Ditko inked a variety of backgrounds, cobbling the cover and splash page from Kirby's original concept drawing.

Premise of the origin story follows 'Matt Murdock', living in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, when he is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle. Despite not being able to see, the radioactive exposure heightens Murdock's remaining senses beyond normal human ability.

His father, a boxer named 'Jack Murdock' supports him as he grows up, though he is later killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight. After donning a yellow and black and later a dark red costume, Murdock seeks revenge against his father's killers as the superhero 'Daredevil'.

Daredevil has since appeared in various forms of media including several animated series, video games and branded merchandise.
