AMC Rises With "The Walking Dead"

Image Comics report that "The Walking Dead" comic book series, by writer Robert Kirkman and illustrators Tony Moore/Charlie Adlard, was greenlit as a paranoid, action horror pilot for AMC.

AMC, noted for the quality TV series "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad", have hired Oscar-nominated Frank "The Green Mile" Darabont to write and direct the pilot.

Since its debut October 2003, Image has published 69 issues of "The Walking Dead", with sales on single issues, trade paperbacks and hardcover collections, steadily increasing in popularity.

Premise of the comic books focuses on 'Rick Grimes', a small-town cop from 'Cynthiana', Kentucky, his family, and a number of hangers-on who band together to survive after the world is overrun with zombies.
