Ridley's "Robin Hood": The Hero Behind The Outlaw

Universal Pictures "Robin Hood", directed by Sir Ridley Scott, starring actor Russell "Gladiator" Crowe in their fifth film collaboration together, is based on the British 'Robin Hood' legend, due for a tent-pole release May 14, 2010.

The film began development in 2007 when Universal acquired the screenplay "Nottingham".

Set in the late 12th century England, 'Sir Robin Hood of Locksley, Earl of Huntington', (Crowe) returns to his North English village after fighting in the 'Third Crusade'. Upon his arrival, he discovers the oppression caused by the new 'Sheriff of Nottingham' (Matthew MacFadyen).

Sir Robin uses his military skills to free his home village from tyranny and corruption, taking back what is 'rightfully' his, winning the affection of recently widowed 'Lady Marian' (Cate Blanchett) and leading his 'Merry Men' of 'Sherwood Forest' to victory.
