'Red Mist' Bends Over For "Kick-Ass"...

Focus Features Intl. has acquired director Matthew "Layer Cake" Vaughn's "Kick-Ass" for the U.K., Australia, Germany, Latin America, Austria, Switzerland and New Zealand. Lionsgate holds domestic rights.

The vigilante-themed feature stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Mark Strong.

Vaughn’s Marv Films independently financed the film, co-produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B.

Premise of "Kick-Ass" follows 'Dave Lizewski', a New York City high school student and only child of single father 'Greg Willer'. Dave takes an interest in comic books as inspiration to become a real-life vigilante hero, a
ssembling a suit and mask, worn under his normal clothing.

But his first attempt at fighting crime results in a beating and stabbing, followed by him wandering through the streets before being hit by a car. Determined to retain his secret identity, Dave hides his costume before paramedics arrive.

Dave tells his father he was 'mugged' and undergoes intense physical rehabilitation, including four operations. Some weeks later, off his crutches he dons his costume and takes off for 'patrol'.

After saving a man in need of assistance, an onlooker catches the scene on a cellphone camera and uploads it to YouTube, turning Dave Lizewski into a new sensation called 'Kick-Ass'.
