Actress Mia "Alice In Wonderland" Wasikowska will star in director Cary Fukunaga's feature adaptation of author Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre."
Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits of UK-based Ruby Films will produce in association with BBC Films and Focus Features, from a screenplay by Moira Buffini.
The new film intends to emphasize the 'sinister gothic' elements of the original story.
Published in London, England in 1847, as a 3-volume set, "Jayne Eyre" is a first-person narrative of the title character, going through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at 'Gateshead', where she is emotionally abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at 'Lowood School', where she acquires friends and role models; her time as governess of 'Thornfield Manor', where she falls in love with employer 'Edward Rochester'; her time with the 'Rivers' family at 'Moor House' and 'Morton', where her clergyman-cousin 'St John Rivers' proposes to her; and her reunion with and marriage to Rochester...
