Screen Gems Unleashing "Straw Dogs"

Rod Lurie is now attached to direct a remake of  Sam Peckinpah’s "Straw Dogs". The original 1971 film featured actors Dustin Hoffman as 'David Sumner', Susan George as 'Amy Sumner', Peter Vaughan as 'Tom Hedden', T.P. McKenna as 'Major John Scott' and David Warner as 'Henry Niles':

The action starts after American mathematician Sumner and Brit wife Amy move back to her rural England home to escape New York City big city crime, only to be trapped and tormented by their hired help, including Amy's ex-boyfriend.

Screen Gems has set Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgard to star alongside James Marsden, with shooting scheduled to start August 2009. In the new version scripted by Reed Steiner, a Hollywood screenwriter (Marsden) relocates with his actress wife (Bosworth) to her hometown in Mississippi. She originally left the area to work in LA, but returned home so her husband could finish his script in quiet. Skarsgard plays her former high school boyfriend.
