Magnolia Pictures' "The Girlfriend Experience" is a 2009 experimental drama, lensed in New York City, directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, starring actress Sasha Grey.
A rough cut was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009 and available on Amazon Video on Demand as a pre-theatrical rental.Soderbergh said that director Michelangelo Antonioni's "Red Desert" and Ingmar Bergman's "Cries and Whispers" were his influences for the film, budgeted at $1.3 million dollars and shot with a RedOne camera.
