"Archie" debuted in "Pep Comics" #22, December 22, 1941, illustrated by Bob Montana and written by Vic Bloom, with the intent by comics publisher John L. Goldwater to appeal to fans of the "Andy Hardy" movies starring actor Mickey Rooney.
"Archie Comics", the title of the company's longest running publication, first appeared on newstands in 1942.
