Andy Serkis Plays With "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll"...

According to reports from UK's Pinewood, part of the new "Ian Dury" biopic, "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" was staged at the studios, with upcoming scenes scheduled to be shot @ Pinewood's 'U-Stage' facility.

Actor Andy "Lord Of The Rings" Serkis plays the lead role of pop singer Dury whose determination, perseverance and wit led to him becoming one of the founders of the punk/new wave music movement in the 1970's.

Dury, who died in 2000, was noted as a singer, songwriter, and bandleader who wrote the generational-anthem single "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll".

The feature "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" is produced by Damian "Welcome To Sarajevo" Jones and directed by BAFTA-nominee, Silver Bear recipient Mat "Shock Doctrine" Whitecross, from an original screenplay by Paul Viragh.

Financed by Prescience, Aegis, the UK Film Council and Lip Sync, worldwide sales are being handled by Odyssey Entertainment, with Entertainment Film Distributors acquiring UK rights to the film.

Joining Serkis in the cast are actors Naomie "28 Days Later" Harris as Dury's girlfriend 'Denise', Ray "Sexy Beast" Winstone as Dury’s father 'Bill', Olivia "The Sixth Sense" Williams as Dury's first wife 'Betty', Bill "Son Of Rambow" Milner as Dury's son 'Baxter', Toby "Harry Potter" Jones as tyrant school tutor 'Hargreaves', Noel "Adulthood' Clarke and Mackenzie "Pirates Of The Caribbean" Crool.


Actors Arthur "Little Dorrit" Darvill, James "Vivaldi" Jagger, Tom Hughes, Shakaj Soornack, Clifford Samuel and Joe Kennedy play Dury’s band "The Blockheads".

The filmmaking team includes DP Brian "Trainspotting" Tufano BSC, pop artist Peter Blake who taught Dury at The Royal College of Art, working with production designer Richard Bullock on the look/design of the film, original Dury collaborator Chaz Jankel is the composer and the original Blockheads have pre-recorded music tracks for the film...
