As Sneak Peek first reported in January, a new UK-Canadian co-production of author John Wyndham's 1951 post-apocalyptic novel "The Day Of The Triffids" is prepping for UK's BBC One, shooting in England on Pinewood Studios 'street set'.
Directed by Patrick "Law & Order" Harbinson, "Triffids" is produced by Power and Toronto's Prodigy Pictures for broadcast later this year.
Cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, her daughter Joely Richardson, Dougray Scott, Eddie Izzard, Brian Cox and Jason Priestley.
In the book, 'triffids' are carnivorous plants able to uproot themselves, walk on three 'legs' and kill with a whip-like stinger.
Speculation by protagonist 'Bill Masen' is that the creatures were bio-engineered in the Soviet Union, with smuggled seeds scattered when a plane was shot down, trying to fly out of Russia. Triffids then began sprouting throughout the world, with their 'essential extracts' harvested as a natural supplement to vegetable and animal oils.
The result was a slew of Triffid farms...
