Fox is developing an updated take on director Robert Zemeckis' 1984 feature "Romancing the Stone", setting writer Daniel "Eagle Eye" McDermott to adapt a new screenplay.
The original film established actress Kathleen Turner as a romantic lead.
Written by struggling screenwriter Diane Thomas, who drafted the script while working as a Malibu waitress, "Romancing The Stone" focused on a repressed romance novelist who traveled to Colombia to find her missing sister, unexpectedly hooking up with a smarmy American soldier of fortune (Michael Douglas), before embarking on a cross-country adventure involving a map, a jewel and a private police force...
