Writer/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar of "Smallville" and "Spider-Man 2" fame, will script "Robotech" for Warners, based on the 1980's Harmony Gold USA/Tatsunoko, Japanese cartoon series.

Premise is set at a time when Earth has developed giant 'mecha' robots from technology discovered in an alien spacecraft that crashed into a South Pacific isle. Mankind is then forced to use the robots to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two pilots.

"Spider-Man" star, actor Tobey Maguire will produce through his Maguire Entertainment with plans to star in a possible franchise of films.
"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said.
"There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."
