Canadian film director David "A History Of Violence" Cronenberg, who says he is ready to move into Toronto's new Filmport Studios to make his next series of films, recently won numerous trophies at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards, for his gangster feature "Eastern Promises".

Bolstered by a strong performance by actor Viggo Mortensen as a Russian enforcer/informer, the movie won in each of the five categories it was nominated in, including best feature film, production design, picture editing, sound editing and best director.

The awards were handed out at a gala Saturday night in Toronto hosted by actor/comedian Shaun Majumder.
