"Quantum Of Solace": $70 Million For '007'...

Sony/MGM's latest 'James Bond' film, "Quantum of Solace" earned a record $70.4 million opening this weekend, the biggest opening ever for a '007' film.

Director Marc Forster's "Solace," playing in 3,451 runs, opened 74% higher than the 2006 feature "Casino Royale".

"Quantum of Solace" continues its worldwide domination, having so far earned an estimated $251.6 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $322 million.

Sony's president of domestic distribution Rory Bruer, said the film's success owes much to Daniel Craig, who has the acting chops to make author Ian Fleming's British secret agent believable.

The film's domestic opening played mostly to an older crowd, reportedly weary of the recent glut of comic books-to-film and full-length, wise-cracking kiddie cartoons, with 58% of audiences over age 25...
