Columbia Gets Stine's "Goosebumps"...

Columbia Pictures has acquired rights from Scholastic Media to adapt author R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series for a live-action feature franchise.

The young-adult book series has sold over 300 million books worldwide.

The book series was previously adapted in Canada as a live-action TV series airing on Fox Kids Network in the 1990s. Those episodes are currently seen on the Cartoon Network.

Scholastic's Deborah Forte will produce the new feature with Neal "Fast and the Furious" Moritz and his Sony-based Original Film company.

Columbia is reportedly fast-tracking the property.

Debuting in 1992, the first Goosebumps series contained 50 books, published in 32 languages.

Stine's Goosebumps Horrorland, a new 12-book series featuring characters the likes of 'Slappy the Dummy', the 'Haunted Mask' and the 'Mummy' became available last month.

In September Scholastic Interactive will launch a Goosebumps videogame.

"Goosebumps is a truly global brand that excites kids everywhere," said Matt Tolmach, co-president of Columbia.

"With so much rich source material available to us, we expect to deliver a film that will chill and thrill fans of this unique family-friendly franchise..."
