Monstrous Opening For "Cloverfield"...

Paramount's "Cloverfield", playing in 3,411 theatres, made a monstrous North American weekend debut of $41 million -- the best January opening ever.

The creature feature, produced on a budget of $25 million, saw the studio's 10th best opening of all time.

With no big stars, "Cloverfield" was shot to resemble amateur home video, with m
ost of the production budget going towards special effects.

Audience was 60% male, 40% female, 55% over the age of 25...
