Director Michael "The Keep" Mann and Johnny "Donnie Brasco" Depp will make "Public Enemies" for Universal, targeting a March 10 start in Chicago.
Depp will play bank robber 'John Dillinger' circa 1933-34, during a depression-era crime-wave when other gangsters like Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd transformed J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI into the first US federal police force.
Screenplay of "Public Enemies" is by Mann, based on a 2004 novel by author Bryan Burrough. Mann's company Forward Pass will produce with Kevin Misher of Misher Films. Tribeca’s Jane Rosenthal will executive produce.
