Director Kathryn "Blue Steel" Bigelow's vampire film "Near Dark"(1987) )will be re-made by Platinum Dunes for Rogue Pictures.
"Nirvana" music video director Samuel Bayer will helm the remake from a screenplay by Christopher "Disturbia" Landon.
The original 1987 film, featuring music by Tangerine Dream, focused on a travelling 'family' of vampires that would roam the US southwest in stolen cars, smoking and bursting into flames if exposed to the sunlight.
When a young cowboy is seduced and bitten by a new girl in town, he is persuaded to join up with the band of vampire ghouls.
But when his father and sister become targets, he is forced to make a choice...
