Development continues on director Matthew "Stardust" Vaughn's upcoming feature based on the Marvel Comics superhero Thor.
The character debuted in Marvel Comics' "Journey Into Mystery" #83 (1962), standing 6'6" and weighing 640 lbs.
As the son of 'Odin', Thor's strength and endurance is greater than any other 'Asgardian' god, with his magic hammer 'Mjolnir', made of mystic 'Uru' metal, deriving powers from six enchantments.
The hammer returns boomerang-like to any spot from which it is thrown and can split open dimensional portals.
According to updated Marvel plot-lines, Odin banished the young 'God of Thunder' to Earth without his memory, to teach him a lesson in humility.
After a decade living as lame mortal 'Dr. Donald Blake', Thor was drawn to Norway, where he stumbled upon aliens planning the destruction of Earth. Seeking refuge in a cave, he discovered a wooden cane that he struck against a rock in frustation, only to be miraculously transformed back into Thor.
Thor promptly destroyed the aliens and became a pop celebrity, as part of the New York City-based Marvel superhero team, the 'Avengers'.
Learning that Blake had not existed prior to his appropriation, Thor established a new mortal identity as 'Sigurd Jarlson'.
"...it's different in the sense that it's a superhero film set in the world of fantasy," Vaughn said about the upcoming film.
"You've got Thor and Odin, and it's set in Asgard. It's not going to be like 'Lord of the Rings' or even 'Narnia'...
"We're not doing the Thor of Norse mythology. We're doing the Marvel 'Thor'..."
