Director Stephen "The Mummy" Sommers has been signed to direct Paramount's big-screen adaptation of "G.I. Joe".
The Hasbro toy creation has spun-off into comic books, cartoons and CG animation, but has yet to make the jump to live-action.
The new "G.I. Joe" characters will work for the "Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity", dedicated to fighting the reptilian 'COBRA' syndicate.
"I wouldn't have jumped into this just because of the Hasbro-Transformers tie," said Sommers.
Stuart "Collateral" Beattie will write the screenplay.
