"Degrassi" Cuts a US Syndie Deal

According to CTV, "Degrassi: The Next Generation" is going to be be syndicated five days a week in 60 per cent of the top US TV markets. The sixth season of the high school teen series is currently airing on CTV drawing 1 million viewers per episode.

"We are thrilled to have such an honoured Canadian series receive such enthusiastic support from US broadcasters," said Michael Shepard, President, Thunderbird Films.

Produced by Epitome Pictures, the new season focuses on the students at 'Degrassi Community School', in real life a sprawling industrial property, south of Eglinton east in Toronto, where filming takes place in one studio building with the next generation of 'Degrassi' actors rehearsing in adjacent classrooms.

The syndication deal includes airings in 5 of the Top 5 US TV markets, for a Fall 2007 launch.

Thunderbird Films and US distribution partner Program Partners also recently acquired Canadian TV dramas "Da Vinci's Inquest", "Cold Squad" and "Stone Undercover" for weekly syndication.
