Cassel in Canada to Play French Gangster

Thomas Langmann will produce two feature films based on the life of notorious French gangster 'Jacques Mesrine', starring actor Vincent "Brotherhood of the Wolf" Cassel.

Last year, Cassel was an internet fan-favorite to play 'The Joker' for the upcoming "Batman: Dark Knight" feature, in a part that subsequently went to Heath Ledger.

Pathe will handle French distribution and international sales for "Death Instinct" and "Public Enemy No. 1", directed by Jean-Francois Richet.

Marion Cottillard and Eva "Casino Royale" Green are attached to play two women who were Mesrine's lovers and partners in crime.

Screenplay is by Abdel Raouf Dafri.

The films will be shot simultaneously in Canada and France over 30 weeks starting May 2007.
