Cronenberg Awarded for "A History Of Violence"

Toronto director David "Rabid" Cronenberg’s comic book-to-film crime drama "A History of Violence" has won four feature film prizes at this year's Director’s Guild of Canada Awards.

Starring actor Viggo Mortensen, the Toronto-shot actioner took awards for best film, best director, best sound editing and best picture editing.

Cronenberg adapted the plot of "A History Of Violence" from the graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke.

Premise of the story follows 'Tom Stall' (Mortensen), a small-town family man whose life is up-ended when he thwarts a robbery and his past catches up with him as he attracts the attention of big-city goons and gangsters.

The film also stars actress Maria Bello as Stall’s sexy wife and William "Altered States" Hurt who earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.

Winner in the DGC TV category was "Human Trafficking", starring Mira Sorvino and Donald Sutherland. The drama took home prizes for best film, best director for Christian Duguay and best production design.

The Directors Guild of Canada represents more than 3,800 professionals working in film and television in the areas of direction, design, production and editing.
