History Targets "The Hatfields & McCoys'"

According to reports, actress Jena Malone ("Sucker Punch") has been cast in History's upcoming 3-part TV mini-series "The Hatfields & McCoys".

Malone joins Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe and Lindsay Pulsipher :

"...The 'Hatfield-McCoy' saga begins with 'Devil Anse Hatfield' (Costner) and 'Randall McCoy' (Paxton). Close friends and comrades during the Civil War, they returned to their neighboring homes — Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the 'Tug River' border in Kentucky — to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon exploded into all-out warfare between the two families. As hostilities grew, friends, neighbors and outside forces joined the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War.

"Their story also includes a tempestuous love affair between Hatfield’s son and McCoy’s daughter, the execution of McCoy’s sons in retaliation for the killing of Hatfield’s brother, a New Year’s massacre of the McCoy clan and the burning of their home, a public clash between state governors and ultimately the involvement of the United States Supreme Court."

The project from Thinkfactory Media, continues shooting on location in Romania.

Oliver Stone Developing "The Power Broker"

According to reports, development continues on an HBO TV movie, to be directed and executive produced by Oliver Stone, based on author Robert A. Caro's 1974, Pulitzer Prize winning biography "The Power Broker'.

Caro's "The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York", traces the rise of 'New York City's Master Builder' and the history of 20th-century New York.

"...Robert Moses' experience working for future governor of New York Al Smith in the New York State Assembly and future New York Mayor Jimmy Walker in the State Senate, taught him how power really worked, that he needed it to make his dreams of roads and bridges for the city reality and that ideals and principles had to be set aside if necessary to make them happen. By the 1930's, Moses earned a reputation as a creator of beautiful parks in both the city and state, and later long-sought projects including the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, but at the price of his earlier integrity.

"Moses was also seen as an unelected bureaucrat who, through his reputation for getting large construction projects done, amassed so much power over the years that the many elected officials whom he was supposedly responsive to instead became dependent on him.

He consistently favored automobile traffic over mass transit, human and community needs, lived like a king and similarly enriched all those in public and private life who aided him..."

Also executive producing "The Power Broker" are producer Peter Guber ("Batman") and actor James Gandolfini ("The Sopranos").

"Guerillas" In The Mist - May 2012

From Oni Press, "Guerillas" Volume 2, available May 2012, is written and illustrated by Brahm Revel :

"...a strange tour of duty in Vietnam for 'Private John Francis Clayton' gets even stranger as he struggles with the unbelievable facts he is faced with.

"The elite platoon of 'simian soldiers' he's encountered don't make any more sense to him than the war he's been sent to fight.

"But is this squad of chain-smoking chimps the most dangerous force in the jungle or are they merely a distraction from a larger evil growing in the wild?..."
