"Hit-Girl" Toys Around



The new "Hit-Girl" 12-inch action figure will be released September 2010, based on the 11-year old costumed vigilante character, starring in the comic book adaptation "Kick-Ass", directed by Matthew Vaughn.



"...She may be cute, but she's got a filthy mouth! 'Hit-Girl', a.k.a. 'Mindy McCready' is an 11-year-old, pigtail-wearing waif with the fighting skills of a ninja. And the little superhero has proven that she has some real kick-ass skills! "Kick-Ass" the movie is based on the comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. following teenager 'Dave Lizewski', who decides to become a real-life superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic books. Under the name of 'Kick-Ass', he encounters a mysterious vigilante called 'Big Daddy' and his daughter 'Hit-Girl', who are working to bring down local crime boss 'Frank D'Amico'..."

"Caesar" Monkeys Around In BC

The British Columbia Film Commission (BCFC) reports that as of mid-April 2010, 24 film projects (5 features, 1 DVD feature, 6 MOWs, 4 Pilots and 8 TV series) are currently shooting in the province.

Notable projects greenlit for spring/summer starts include "The Big Year", starring Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black, directed by David Frankel ("Marley And Me") "The Planet of the Apes" prequel "Caesar-Rise of the Apes" and "The Girl in the Red Riding Hood" starring Amanda Seyfried.

TV series currently in production include "Eureka", "Shattered", "Stargate Universe", "Tower Prep" and "V"....

Disney's Pixar Launches Vancouver Studio

Disney-owned Pixar Animation hasa reported the launch of a new studio facility in Vancouver, BC.

Pixar Canada will produce 20 to 25 minutes of short films annually to be distributed worldwide on the Disney Channel, on the web and in theme parks.

Amir Nasrabadi, Pixar Canada general manager said the company's goal was to employ 75 people by 2012, moving up to a 20,000 to 25,000 square foot space.

Pixar was purchased in 2006 by the Walt Disney Company for 7.4 billion dollars (US), noted for winning 24 Academy Awards for animated features including "Toy Story". "Toy Story 3" in 3D opens June 18.

The Vancouver production facility will deliver their first projects in August....

Sneak Peek "Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds"


Sneak Peek the new trailer for the upcoming video game "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds", the next installment in the series of games in which characters created by Marvel Comics and Capcom's own characters appear together.

Confirmed Marvel superhero comic book characters for the new game are 'Wolverine', 'Spider-Man', 'The Hulk', 'Magneto' and 'Storm'.

Reported release date for the disc-based game is late 2010 or early 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, running in 1080p resolution.

In the new trailer, 'Ryu' fights for Capcom and 'Wolverine' for Marvel, also including a flying fight between Darkstalkers‘ 'Morrigan' and 'Iron Man'.
The final pairing pits 'The Hulk' vs 'Chris Redfield' from "Resident Evil 5".

Vanessa Hudgens Gets "Beastly" In Montreal

Sneak Peek the new trailer for CBS Films, Montreal-lensed supernatural feature "Beastly".

The fantasy romance is based on author Alex Flinn's 2007 novel "Beastly", written/directed for the screen by Daniel Barnz, starring Vanessa Hudgens, Alex Pettyfer, Mary Kate Olsen, Neil Patrick Harris and Lisa Gay Hamilton.

The plot focuses on 'Kyle Kingson', a man with an evil streak, who ditches a classmate who is a witch in disguise during an environmental bash. The witch, then, casts a spell on Kyle and physically transforms him into a grotesque monster.

"Beastly" will be distributed by CBS Films July 30, who already has big plans to market the film including apparel/accessories, 'social expressions' and gaming produced. Among the products planned are proprietary/co-branded games/puzzles for release worldwide by Fundex, figures and bobbleheads worldwide by Bif Bang Pow!, costumes, masks and accessories for the US and Canada from Rubie’s and video games worldwide from Storm City.

Noomi Rapace Is "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"



"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" starring Swedish actress Noomi Rapace as 'Lisbeth Salander', is the 2009 Swedish feature, directed by Niels Arden Oplev, based on the bestselling novel by Swedish author/journalist Stieg Larsson.


The film is the first in the "Millennium" trilogy, to be followed by "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest".


Rapace plays a young punk in "Tattoo", victimized her whole life, yet helping a framed investigative reporter named 'Mikael Blomkvist' with her skills as a computer hacker and tough street fighter.
